Course Information

Paediatric First Aid Level 3 (RQF) – PFA

The Paediatric First Aid (RQF) course provides theoretical and practical training in first aid techniques that are specific to infants aged 0 to 1 and children aged from 1 to 18 years old. By undertaking this training, you are ensuring that you know what to do in a paediatric first aid situation. For those providers whose activities are covered by the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, this course will ensure you meet those standards as well as the Department for Education’s requirements.

The Paediatric First Aid course is a regulated course with at least 12 contact hours, usually run over 2 days*. The course meets the UK and European Resuscitation Council Guidelines 2021 as per the HSE requirements.

There is the option of combining the Paediatric First Aid course with an Outdoor Pursuits  First Aid 16-Hour Level 3 (VTQ) course and a Forest Schools 16-Hour First Aid Level 3 (VTQ) course. The Forest School Association (FAS) recommends that Forest School Practitioners’ First Aid qualifications are aligned with the  Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL) Statement of Good Practice on Outdoor First Aid at Band 3.

Spaces on the Paediatric First Aid course are limited to a maximum of 12 people. A hands-on approach ensures that attendees learn first aid skills and have the confidence to use them in a real life situation. Learners are assessed throughout the course on their practical demonstrations, Q&A sessions and quizzes.

*Studying with an instructor is always going to result in deeper and more memorable learning. However, there are circumstances where the release of employees from their normal duties to undertake a first aid course is complicated or even impossible. White Cross Training can offer a blended Paediatric First Aid course whereby attendees do some of their learning online, prior to the hands-on session with their instructor. The online study time is usually about 6-hours. This is followed by 1-day with an instructor where attendees are able to practise their first aid skills and demonstrate their competence.

On successful completion of either the traditional or blended course, attendees will receive an accredited Paediatric First Aid (RQF) certificate which is valid for three years. An annual Paediatric Refresher Course is highly recommended. To renew this qualification, you will need to attend a further Paediatric First Aid course.

Attendees completing our Paediatric First Aid courses receive access to a video library for refreshing skills and reference through ProTrainings.
