We are over the moon that all state-funded schools are now required to teach first aid as part of the physical health and mental wellbeing section of the statutory relationships, sex and health education curriculum.
There are some excellent lesson plans and teaching resources available to schools free of charge online, for example St John Abulance. However, when teaching first aid knowledge and skills, many schools are choosing to use external trainers. White Cross Training courses will help you to meet the new curriculum requirements by providing practical demonstrations and the opportunity for children to practise first aid skills so that they could help someone in a first aid emergency and also ensure that they know how to keep themselves safe at all times. Our courses are practical, interactive and always lots of fun!
We will come to your school and work with groups of up to 15 children at a time. We can be flexible over the duration of sessions and will work within your timings of the school day. At the end of our courses, children receive a certificate and a little memento.
In EYFS and KS1, children will learn about what happens to their bodies if they get hurt and how a small cut or graze is treated. They will have the opportunity to practise washing their hands, cleaning a wound and applying a plaster or bandage. Children will also learn how to confidently make an emergency call and why it is important to know their address.
In KS2, children will learn more basic first aid, including what to do if they or someone else has a head injury, burn, break or are bleeding. They will also begin to develop the skills of carrying out CPR and how to deal with a choking situation.
In KS3 and KS4, children will learn further first aid skills, including CPR and the purpose of defibrillators and how to deal with choking, head injuries, bleeding, burns, breaks, allergic reactions and asthma attacks.
For special schools and for SEND pupils in mainstream schools, we can tailor our course content to meet your children’s specific needs, ensuring that our courses are sensitive and developmentally appropriate.
