A new defibrillator on the market… is it worth considering?
If you’re looking for a defibrillator for home use in the UK, the HeartHero AED is one worth considering. In this review, I’ll share my honest thoughts from a practical first aid training perspective.
As someone who delivers first aid training across the UK and provides event cover, I’m always interested in equipment that’s simple, practical and actually usable in real situations, not just something that looks good on paper.
One thing that’s really important to understand is where cardiac arrests actually happen.
In the UK, around 80% of cardiac arrests occur at home, which makes having a defibrillator at home far more relevant than many people realise.
That’s a big reason why more people are now starting to consider a defibrillator for home use, not just in workplaces or public spaces.
First impressions of this defibrillator for home use
It’s a fully automatic defibrillator (AED), so it will analyse the patient and deliver a shock if needed without the user having to press anything. That’s a big plus, especially for someone using one for the first time.
I hear a lot of stories about people not knowing how to turn a defibrillator on, or even how to open it in an emergency.
That’s why I really like the fact that this one has two simple ways to activate it, either by pressing the button or just pulling out the pads.
👉 In a high-pressure situation, that kind of simplicity really matters.
Another thing I like is that it uses one set of pads for both adults and children, with a simple switch between the two.
👉 No changing pads, no confusion. Just quicker and simpler when it matters.
Overall, it feels like a really practical option for home use, especially for families who want something straightforward and reliable.
What else stands out
There are a few other things I like about it as well.
It’s built for tougher environments. It works from -20°C up to 50°C and is water and dust resistant (IP66), so it’s something you could confidently use outdoors.
It’s also small and lightweight (around 0.6kg), which makes it easy to carry or store at home without it being in the way.
On top of that, it has Bluetooth monitoring and daily self-checks built in, which gives that extra peace of mind that it’s ready to go when you need it.
👉 Whether it’s for events, farms, outdoor settings or just at home, that all makes a big difference.
Where I think it fits best
From my point of view, this is a really good option for a wide range of settings.
That includes small businesses, community groups, schools, event organisers and homes, especially where space is limited. It would also suit anyone who wants a simple, easy-to-use defibrillator without overcomplicating things.
What stands out most is how approachable it is. It’s the kind of device people can pick up and use with confidence, even if they’ve never used one before.
My overall thoughts
I think the HeartHero sits in a really nice place in the market.
👉 It’s simple, practical and more affordable than a lot of alternatives
👉 It’s clearly designed with real users in mind
And ultimately, that’s what matters.

Final thought
At the end of the day, the most important thing isn’t which defibrillator you choose.
👉 It’s having one available and knowing what to do.
